A Creative Look Inside A Magician’s Mind

Me & CA

When a lot of people in the business world first meet me they find it interesting that my background comes from being a magician. I traveled the world with a deck of cards when I was younger hosting seminars where I would teach the secrets to the tricks that I had invented.

Over the last 6 years though I acted as a creative consultant for Criss Angel in Las Vegas. I had a blast working with Criss and got a first hand education in television and branding at the highest level because of his relationship with Cirque du Soleil. These are two monster brands that do business in a big way so it was my mission to learn as much as I could along the way.

A lot of people have asked me over the years how they can be more creative so I thought this would be the perfect place to share some tips. These are the things that have worked for me over the years so maybe something here will get the ball rolling for you. Remember that everyone is different so you should definitely explore to find what works best for you. Think of this process like creating your own cocktail and your creative tools are the ingredients that make up how it tastes. Catch my drift?

One of my biggest tips is to grab yourself a notebook and start jotting down every single idea that pops into your head. The ideas might not be any good, or make much sense right now, but there might be a day when one of these ideas sparks something else.

Up next  find something that gets you in the zone. For me it’s putting on some music that gets me pumped up and ready to kick some ass. Music might not be your thing, maybe it’s a quiet place or a certain time of day when it’s peaceful and you can reflect on your thoughts. Explore and have fun though, that’s what this whole creative thing is supposed to be about.

This one might sound familiar but if you try it I guarantee you will see results. Surround yourself with other creative people as much as you can. It’s like the old saying goes…success breeds success. If you really want to get creative hang out with, and learn from, the most creative people you can find. Give it a little time but before you know it you will start thinking about things in a brand new way.

Last but not least follow your passion. If you love something then it will be easy to get creative because you already think about this thing all the time. A big part of being creative is finding yourself in the right mindset. The more you’re thinking creatively will trigger more and more bursts of genius.

I came across the image you see below while doing some research. I’ve found it useful, and some of my tips seem to be included, so I thought you might enjoy it as well!
